Internal
medicine is a specialty in the branch of medicine for the well-being, diagnosis
and non-surgical
treatment of internal organs and functions of the adult body.
An Internist
obtains a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree followed by a hospital-based
training program, or residency, of several years duration.
Some IPC internists have additional years of training to become
sub-specialists in internal medicine. Internists PC has general internal
medicine physicians
and sub-specialists in the following areas: pulmonary (lungs),
infectious diseases (treatment of infections), nephrology (kidneys) and
gastroenterology
(stomach and intestines).
